New York state history

        New York is an interesting

state with lots of history. Some

of first Native American tribes

arrived about 5,000 years ago.

Some of the Native American

tribes are Mohawk, Gayuga,

Oneida, and Seneca. In 1624

the Dutch colonized what is now

known as Manhattan Island.

Later the British took control of

New York. New York got it's

name from a British duke. ​New York became a state on July 26, 1788. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French on Oct 28, 1886. Ellis Island was commissioned on Jan 1, 1892, millions of immigrants went trough Ellis Island. In 2001 the 9/11  terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center caused Thousands of fatalities this was one of the worst terrorist attacks on the U.S. in history.
